Rose Laffan

Senior Associate Rose Laffan joined our firm in 2013, having commenced practice as a family law lawyer in 2006 and completed her Masters of Applied Law (Family Law) in 2012.

Rose practices primarily in parenting and property division matters as well as assisting her clients with child support matters. She has a real passion for family law practice and helping her clients, whom she often finds experiencing the worst time of their lives, to successfully navigate their legal issues stemming from relationship breakdown.

Rose graduated from the University of Newcastle in 2005 with a Bachelor of Laws and a Diploma of Legal Practice and was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of NSW and the High Court of Australis in February 2006. Rose also holds a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Political Science from the University of Newcastle.

Since 2018 Rose, along with Ashleigh John, has taught the Family Law Practice subject at the University of Newcastle.

Growing up in Singelton, where she was the Young Citizen of the Year in 1999, Rose continues to have strong ties to Newcastle and the Hunter Valley.

To give back to the Newcastle community, and the University, Rose also volunteers at the University of Newcastle Legal Centre – advising disadvantaged clients in relation to family law matters during their Wednesday evening legal clinics. Rose has done this since her admission to practice law in 2006.

To give back to the Newcastle community and the University, Rose has volunteered at the University’s Legal Centre evening clinics since her admission to practice, advising disadvantaged clients on their family law matters. She also regularly volunteers with local legal programs and recently facilitated a group of female lawyers making the transition to the Bar.

Rose has been Secretary of the Newcastle Law Society since 2018 and is Chair of its Continuing Professional Development Sub-committee. She is a member of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia, the Law Society of NSW, the Newcastle Law Society and the Hunter Valley Family Law Practitioners Association and the Hunter Young professionals Network.
