Mark is the leader of our Separation, Family, Relationships Law group and a NSW Law Society Accredited Specialist in Family Law since 1994. He has practiced in this area for 41 years and has been a principal and director of Mullane & Lindsay since 1985.
Mark guides clients through issues relating to parenting, child support and property adjustment on a daily basis. His focus however continues to be the resolution of complex commercial and property disputes that arise on relationship breakdown. He has expertise in those property matters involving small to large businesses, corporate and trust entities and superannuation. He works collaboratively with accountants and financial planners and seeks out the expert knowledge of independent, jointly instructed and funded, forensic valuers to facilitate settlement.
Litigation is slow and expensive, and can cause irreparable harm to the value of a business, and to a family’s health and finances. Mark is therefore focused on timely preparation of matters so that early mediated and negotiated solutions can be achieved for clients. If that is unsuccessful or it simply becomes necessary to initiate or defend clients’ claims in court to achieve the best and most equitable outcomes for them, Mark has the skills and experience to advance that litigation for clients. In doing so, he will not lose sight of the importance to the client of finding a negotiated and enforceable solution that is in the client’s best interests, and may end the litigation.
Mark is an Affiliate Member of SMSF Association and is a past director of the trustee company of the Nationwide Superannuation Fund. He is a member of the Hunter Valley Family Law Practitioners Association, and the Greater Newcastle Gateways Project. He is a member of the Regional Committee of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia, and monitors the continuing changes to law and practice in this important socio- legal area.
