Family Law Courts during COVID-19 – same, same but different

The Family Court of Australia and Federal Circuit Court of Australia have sent a clear message to the community – we remain open for business… it just looks a little different.
In keeping with Government directives, the Courts have modified their practices to minimise the personal attendance of legal practitioners and parties at the Court.  This is done with a view to protecting the health and safety of the community, Judges and staff.
Court events are primarily conducted by telephone or Audio Visual Link, involving Judges, legal practitioners and parties.  Of course, this comes with its own challenges and the Court has been working together with the legal profession to develop innovative ways to make it work.
Members of our family law team, through our offices held in our local professional associations, have been working collaboratively with the Courts to address these challenges and assist the Courts to keep the wheels of family law turning, and minimise the disruption and delay to families.
